And the Lord appeared unto Abraham by the oaks of Mamre as he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day.

And he lifted up his eyes and looked and three men stood over against him. And when he saw them he ran to meet them from the tent door and bowed himself to the earth and said “My lord if now I have found favour in thy sight pass not away I pray thee from thy servant.

Let now a little water be fetched and wash your feet and rest yourselves under the tree and I will fetch a morsel of bread and comfort ye your heart. After that ye shall pass on.”

And they said “So do as thou hast said.” And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah and said “Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal knead it and make cakes.”

And Abraham ran unto the herd and fetched a calf tender and good and gave it unto the servant and he hasted to dress it. And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed and set it before them and he stood by them under the tree and they did eat.

And they said unto him “Where is Sarah thy wife?” And he said “Behold in the tent. And he said I will certainly return unto thee when the season cometh round and Sarah thy wife shall have a son.”

And Sarah heard in the tent door which was behind him. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age. And Sarah laughed within herself.

And the Lord said unto Abraham “Wherefore did Sarah laugh saying ‘Shall I bear a child which am old?’ Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the set time I will return unto thee when the season cometh round and Sarah shall have a son.”

Then Sarah denied saying “I laughed not for she was afraid.” And he said “Nay but thou didst laugh.” And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.

And Sarah bare Abraham a son in his old age at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him whom Sarah bare to him Isaac.

And Abraham was an hundred years old when his son Isaac was born unto him.

And Sarah said “God hath made me to laugh every one that heareth will laugh with me for I have borne Abraham a son in his old age.”

And it came to pass that God did prove Abraham and said unto him “Abraham” and he said “Here am I.” And He said “Take now thy son thine only son whom thou lovest even Isaac and get thee into the land of Moriah and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”

And Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son and he clave the wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went unto the place of which God had told him.

On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off. And Abraham said unto his young men “Abide ye here with the ass and I and the lad will go yonder and we will worship and come again to you.”

And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it upon Isaac his son and he took in his hand the fire and the knife and they went both of them together. And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father and said “My father” and he said “Here am I my son.”

And he said “Behold the fire and the wood but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” And Abraham said “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering my son” so they went both of them together.

And they came to the place which God had told him of and Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

And Abraham stretched forth his hand and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven and said “Abraham, Abraham” and he said “Here am I.” And he said “Lay not thine hand upon the lad neither do thou any thing unto him for now I know that thou fearest God seeing thou hast not withheld thy son thine only son from me.”

And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked and behold behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham a second time out of heaven and said “By myself have I sworn” saith the Lord “because thou hast done this thing and hast not withheld thy son thine only son that in blessing I will bless thee and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is upon the sea shore and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed because thou hast obeyed my voice.”

So Abraham returned unto his young men and they rose up and went together to Beer-sheba and Abraham dwelt at Beer-sheba.
